Around February 21,2017 I was in the market for 2 twin mattresses (NO BOX SPRINGS NEEDED). I was partticularly interested in the Jameson brand because of personal experience and research. American Freight advertised they carried the brand and had free layaway. They pointed out their sharp discounting so I drove 35 minutes from my home to the Trussville AL store. I chose a particular style I liked and was then told that my choice did not come in twin size. As I was leaving a man stating he was the manager said he may be able to get the mattresses custom built but it would take 6 weeks to build them. In addition because twins,were not a choice in their computer system he would have to order as a full with notes that I wanted twin custom. And he would discount manually for the size difference and no box springs needed. I agreed. I put $300.00 down and was told I had 2 years to pay it off. I told him it would not be that long because I needed them for injured family members that 2 to 3 months max I would pick them up. That meant the mattresses,would only be held in store for 2 to 3 weeks because they took so long to build. I held a mattress prescription from the Dr.that he did not know about but I knew what we needed. I called a few weeks later because I misplaced the original paperwork and wanted to know,exactly when a payment would be due. The man on the phone said not to worry any amount was fine and as long as it wasn't a month late it would be fine and cheerfully reiterated I had 2 years to pay it off. The mattresses came in and when I went in the manager showed them to me. I told him to put my name and sold on them. I made 2 more smaller payments and on April 30th I went to pay off the layaway.. Approx 71 days from layaway date and only a few weeks from merchandise,arrival to store. When I arrived the mattresses.could not be located. They tried to reach some people that may know where they were . One employee said the mattresses had been there aminute. I asked what do you mean a minute? He replied I left them on layaway a long time from way back in February. I reminded him I had 2 years to pay it off and the mattresses took 6 weeks to build and even if I paid off the layaway sooner the mattresses were not there to pick up AND they held my $300 and 2 other payments without having my merchandise The length of time I had the layaway was a reoccurrig theme with them like that was the reason my mattresses were not there. Another employee said "We have the right to sale anything until it is paid for in full. DOESNT THAT DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF CUSTOM ORDERED LAYAWAY.The manager from the layaway day was not there. A different "manager" was looking for them. Finally he got the first manager on the phone. I heard the whole conversation. The first manager told him not to call him. He said he sent my mattresses to the Helena store. Then the other manager called Helena and said they were sold. By this time I am crying because of the physical pain my family is in and how hard it was to wait on these nattresses.All the while the manager is grinning from ear to ear with a almost chuckle. He was holding back. Then they told me Helena had one and could get one in 7 days. Then The chuckling manager became more serious when I repromanded him for smiling. I demanded my money back but there is a NO REFUND AFTER 10 DAYS POLICY. I told him I was going to get an attorney and put my story online. He tried over and over and over to talk me out of money back. I told him I had lost my trust completely. He promised he could get both mattresses by the next end of business day from Helena and he would give me a $100 discount. I refused and he credited my card. I called Helena and their employee said she did not think they had Jameson twins. The manager got on the phone he first said he had them. Then he said he had one and they could build another one. Then he said Huntsville had a second one he could get in 7 days. But when he calculated the price he only gave me $40 something dollars discount from full to twin with no box springs. I protested and asked for $100 discount off 5he original price I agreed to. He said come get them. The drive is 1 and a half hours away. I got on the interstate and Helena mgr called back and said he was wrong the employees went by the scu number on my original receipt and when he went to look it was a FULL SIZE not a twin. That they would have to build both mattressez. I REST MY CASE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND AMERICAN FREIGHT IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM. HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION AND CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DONT CARE ATTITUDE ALL AROUND. Also smelled alcohol on one the employees helping me.
