We recently fired Gerry from our basement job. He hired a sub contractor that he decided to tell us at 10 pm at our home the night before the work was to be finished he was firing. He offered for us to deal directly with the sub the next day if we wanted to. I asked him to write us a check for the money we had paid him for the labor on the work so we could deal with the sub. He stood up to leave and said he would not write us a check. He has not paid the sub and said he won't because of some paperwork issue. We asked him to refund the money we paid him for the work the sub did to protect us from a builder's lien by the sub. Haven't heard a word. He was paid for work not completed that we now have to hire others to finish, and has kept the money we paid for work completed by the sub, who has talked to us several times to tell us he has not been paid.
