Buyer-be-Ware! Dan The Tiki Hut Man recently won my Request for Proposal for an Indian Authenticated Chickee Hut to be built at our SW Florida Home. My requiring Indian Authentication licensing was clear in my RFP. Indian Authentication legally removes the need for Florida Building Code construction requirements per Florida Statute 553-73 resulting in eliminating or significantly reducing fees for building permits and architectural design work which was my goal. Dan was never able to provide the requested Indian Authentication license to satisfy my local town's Building Department after multiple requests. When I told him that his not supplying this Indian license was a "Deal Breaker" he emailed "Please feel free to find yourself another contractor." He was clearly dishonest with me regarding his contractor licensing and Indian Authentication privileges. That is why he surprisingly quoted an extra "Permitting" fee of $850 as he knew his only way to get local government approval for constructing my chickee hut was to go through a costly conventional permitting process . Based on my contracting experience with Dan, he is not an honest businessman and I recommend you do as I am doing and "find another contractor" to start.
